Andrea grew up in a small village in the countryside of Tuscany, where changing snow patterns turned climate change from an abstract idea into something he could see outside his window. That mix of natural beauty and visible degradation shaped his sense of responsibility and community. At 16 he left for Germany on a scholarship, then studied at the London School of Economics, completing a Master's in Finance. He started his career as a trader before spending eight years at BCG, eventually becoming the global face of the firm’s sustainability practice.
Advising large organizations on sustainability showed him that the transition depended on information and data. Yet these were fragmented, opaque, and often inaccessible to the people making decisions. He wanted to build something at scale that was not reset every time a project ended.
illuminem solves exactly that. It began as a media platform and has grown into a combined media and data company, building toward a “Bloomberg of Sustainability.” Today, illuminem’s purpose is to be the most used platform for sustainability insight, data, and action for companies.
